Christ’s Humility and Exaltation

“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had…he gave up his divine privileges…” – Philippians 2:5-7 (NLT)

We are called as believers to adopt the humble, selfless mindset of Jesus Christ, Who, despite being God, took the form of a servant and died on the cross.

Jesus Christ was humble, willing to give up His rights in order to obey God and serve people.

Like Christ, we should have a servant’s attitude, serving out of love for God and for others, not out of guilt or fear. Remember, you can choose your attitude. You can approach life expecting to be served, or you can look for opportunities to serve others.

When we hear the word ‘attitude,’ we understand that it’s about thinking. Thus, when Paul calls the church to adopt the same attitude Jesus had, he does not mean a particular view; instead, he means that all our thinking and minds should be like Jesus! Our minds must be transformed like Jesus by consuming the things of His Kingdom.

Or, to put it in one simple sentence. We adopt the attitude of Jesus by giving ourselves to His way, obeying and following His Word, and allowing the Holy Spirit to use the Kingdom tools to provide us with Kingdom minds. Basically, we walk in humility.

Jesus did not cling to His divine rights but willingly surrendered His privileges to serve others. He showed us everything about God’s character that can be conveyed in human terms. He demonstrated how we should live.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your example of humility. Help us to follow Your footsteps and to live with grace and humbleness. Guide us in putting others first and not comparing ourselves with each other, in Jesus’ name.
